The sisters Martha and Loesje Maieu sing about secret dreams of love, desires and timeless emotions. A sensual and attractive blend of wonderful vocal harmonies.
Their angelic voices, however, can also be treacherous: their songs about the tender, fragile side of life are accompanied by a multi-instrumentalist group that can sometimes hand out nasty stabs of (guitar) sounds.
The atmosphere, as well as the things they come up with, can become dark and grim. This is what makes the sound of Blackie & the Oohoos unique. Like no other band, they know how to set a mood that’s intimate, fairytale-like and dark at the same time.

On special occasions the group has been accompanied by a string quartet and ondes martenot.
