True Bypass is Chantal Acda (Sleepingdog, Isbells) and Craig Ward (The Love Substitutes, A Clean Kitchen is a Happy Kitchen, iH8 Camera and formerly of dEUS)
The outstanding difference with this second record is that the entire lyrical content was written before the music by the English writer Toby Litt. The words are based on Chantal’s personal life after the two became close friends and as such provides an interesting and strange way to approach making a record.
Toby Litt is an English writer, born in Bedford in 1968. He studied at Bedford Modern School, read English at Worcester College, Oxford and studied Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia where he was taught by Malcolm Bradbury. In 2003 he was nominated by Granta magazine as one of the 20 ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ and in 2009 his story ‘John & John’ won the Manchester Fiction Prize. Litt is the author of two collections of stories and eleven novels.
Most of the songs were recorded with Koen Renders (Spencer The Rover), then at home overdubs were added by Chantal and Craig with added contributions from Eric Thielemans, (Tape Cuts Tape, EARR), Gianni Marzo (Isbells, Marble Sounds), Gerd Van Mulders (Marble Sounds, Headphone) & Renee Sys (Renee). The album was mixed by Christophe Vandewoude (Isbells) and mastered by Uwe Teichert (dEUS, Public Enemy, Placebo).
